Pillow Thoughts is the first collection of poems that I’ve read in my life. Skeptical at first, I was pleasantly surprised by how a couple of lines can make you feel such deep feelings, feelings that we often hide, ignore, or repress.
Here are my personal favorite quotes from this beautiful book.
But life is not about half doing. You cannot half love, or half accept, or half live. It’s about giving everything you have. When you are old and worn, do you really want to look back and say you gave the bare minimum? You owe yourself more than that.
The world still has much to give, and I see it; I hope that those blinded by hate and rage will feel it. A love so fiery it becomes the color of cherries, and candles, and lipstick, and they will finally see the world with all its love to give.
Love is not always roses, honey, and tea. Sometimes it is difficult being you, and sometimes it is difficult being me. And in the night if we are restless and our love struggles to make sense, know that I will fight for us. Because I love you, and I know that you love me.
Is that why you play the music so loud? A beat to drown out the thoughts, sound so high you cannot think, lyrics so close to home you don’t even blink.
If you are in love and the love is returned, be grateful. Because if you take love for granted, it will be overturned.
That’s the thing about moving on. You are never going to find a love quite like the one before. The key is to stop wanting the same things and embrace the things to come.
Maybe you’re running scared because running is better than letting someone else in. But the truth is, you can’t spend your whole life running. It’s exhausting living in fear. Slow down. Chances and risks keep life interesting.
